Your ski jacket is one of the most important purchases you can make apart from your actual ski gear. A functional jacket can make the difference between having a fabulous ski trip and a miserable one. This article will provide you with hints to ensure that you make a great purchasing decision.

You want your ski jacket to be stylish but, as with all of your ski gear, it must also serve its main purpose. In this case to keep you comfortable and dry on the slopes. It also needs to be made of breathable fabric. You exert a fair bit of energy skiing and you need fabric that breathes well to allow perspiration to escape. Here are a few questions to consider when purchasing your jacket.

Do you normally run hot or cold? Everyone’s body temperature is different and being too hot can be just as uncomfortable as being too cold. Many ski jackets these days come with a fleece liner that can be easily removed. Do you like to wear several layers? If so, a ski shell may be better for you than a padded ski jacket. It will keep out the wind and keep you dry but you can control how many layers you wear underneath. If you do this, make sure to buy one large enough to accommodate several layers underneath for those freezing days.

Is it seam sealed? Regardless of the quality of the fabric used you will still get wet sometimes if your ski jacket is not seam sealed. Does it have adequate pockets and accessories? Think about all of the things that you need and whether it can accommodate them. Remember things such as keys, money and cards, spare glasses, phone, neck warmer, tissues, lift pass etc.

What is your budget? Your jacket is often one of the more expensive items of ski gear but if you choose wisely yours will last for years. Most top of the range ski jackets will cost you $400 or more though you can find some basic ones for around $200. It is not, however, an area to scrimp on. As with most ski gear, if you are on a budget it is smarter to shop around for a good quality ski jacket on sale rather than purchasing cheap quality.

Organizing children’s ski gear need not be difficult but if it is not done properly they may have a difficult time and end up miserable. As parents, we know that if the children are miserable they will make sure that we are too! Here are some hints that will ensure that the whole family has a great time.

Many family upsets that occur on snow holidays could have been avoided with a little forward planning for the children’s comfort. Getting appropriate kids ski gear need not be expensive. Ask friends if they have some that you can borrow, look for end of season bargains. Also, many retail and equipment outlets hire kids ski clothes. If you plan on buying your children’s ski clothes there are numerous reputable online stores that are a great source of good quality equipment, ski clothing and accessories at discounted prices.

If you just follow the following few tips the whole family will be guaranteed a fabulous fun filled time on your winter wonderland holiday

•	Dress your children in layers that use fabrics that breathe.

•	Ensure that their pants and jackets are warm, waterproof and windproof.

• Have good warm socks that are not too thick. It is a fallacy that thick ski socks keep your feet warmer. Make sure that they are long enough to be higher than the top of their ski boots or they can end up with chaffing and blisters.

• Have a spare pair of gloves. Children can’t resist playing in the snow and even the best ski gloves can get so cold and wet that they will take hours to dry out. If you have really young ones try attaching their gloves to the cuff of their ski jacket with some string or elastic so that they won’t get lost if they come off.

•	Don’t forget a ski helmet. Apart from protection, it will keep their heads warm and, unlike hats, won’t come off.

• If you are hiring your ski gear try to get it the day before so that whole family has a chance to walk around in their ski boots for a while. It is better to discover any problems before you hit the slopes.

•	Get good quality anti fog ski goggles. Adults don’t enjoy skiing if they can’t see and neither do children.

•	Last but not least don’t forget the sunscreen.

A ski holiday is one of the most magical things that you can do with your family. Your choice of ski gear for both yourself and your children can make the difference between having a fabulous time or not.

While in some ski areas, the ski trails or slope have just numbers, ski runs that have catchy names are the ones that are easiest to remember. While ski runs that are part of a park or resort area are typically named by staff members or owners, others have just acquired names over time by those who have traversed the terrain.

If the name is suitable and memorable to others, sometimes it sticks. This is a collection of some of the most memorable, albeit sometimes funny, names of ski slopes and ski runs throughout the US and Canada.

At Blackjack Resort in northern Michigan, there is a notorious trail known only as No Name Trail. At the nearby Treetops Resort, another trail is known as Old Face Full. At Alpine Meadows Resort at Lake Tahoe, there is the Chute That Seldom Slides, and at Donner Ski Ranch, there is the Not So Private Road. Also at Lake Tahoe, Mount Rose is the home to the infamous Miller Time run, and at Heavenly, you can find the $100 Saddle as well.

In Taos, New Mexico, you can find the Psycho Path, but it is highly advised that you don’t. Bogus Basin, Idaho is home to the Widow Maker if you dare, and Sundance, Utah hosts the Tombstone trail. For those who prefer a little faster pace, there is also Git-a-long Road at Vail.

Exploring the different ski resorts is one of the most exciting aspects of a skiing enthusiasts life, so why not grab your ski gear and start your own adventure?

Whether you are a beginner or a more experienced skier, a long day on the slopes can really take it out of you. During your ski trip, getting out of your ski gear and unwinding at the end of the day is just as important as having fun during the day, and checking out the local scene, as well as socializing with other travelers and locals can be a great way to relax after a long day of hard work.

No matter what ski area is your destination, be sure to check out the options available for après ski events prior to leaving for your trip. Most ski resorts also offer a large number of après ski events and opportunities, such as a spa, cocktail lounge, as well as concert and other entertainment events. But don’t just keep yourself confined to the resort, visit out other venues nearby, or explore attractions close to wherever you may be staying.

When you arrive at the resort, check the lobby for brochures on other attractions that can be great for just you or for the kids as well. Talk to other travelers about what they have seen in the area too. Find out what night clubs and restaurants are in the area too, as these can all be great places to unwind and still give you the opportunity to check out something new.

In northern Michigan, there are a variety of ski schools to help train beginner level skiers, as well as some of the greatest bunny slopes out there for learning the ropes. Crystal Mountain’s Totem Park is one of the top ski areas for beginners in the nation, and features a spacious two acre learning area to easily accommodate children or adults. In addition, the park features a conveyer belt that aids newcomers to the sport of skiing in getting to the top of the hill.

After you have conquered the basics and practiced a few turns, you can then head to a couple of nearby smaller ski hills. Ski areas that are less crowded seem to create less intimidation for beginners. Caberfae Peaks in Cadillac, as well as The Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor offer not only a spectacular view, but also a great beginner experience.

If you are new to the sport you may want to rent your ski gear at first. You can also find some great bargains on ski clothing online.

However, there are a number of ways that you can cut down on your travel bill, as well as save money on ski gear that can prove to be lifesavers in the long run, especially if you have a larger family or are travelling as a group.

The first thing to consider that can save you a lot of valuable money is the time of year that you will be travelling. Avoiding the holiday season as much as possible, and planning your ski trip during times when there are likely to be less visitors can save a considerable amount of money. In addition, during these times, many ski resorts and ski areas offer a number of promotional offers and incentives to lure in visitors that might not normally get out to enjoy the ski season.

When it comes to ski gear, a variety of used ski equipment can be found online or through auctions, or at ski swaps which are hosted by a number of organizations throughout the country. Also, a lot of the ski resorts or ski areas also have ski shops that feature a rental program for you to borrow some ski gear and equipment.

While the majority of the Snowseekers’ meetings are held near Chicago, the club features a ton of fun benefits for members everywhere.

A combination of families, couples, and singles, Snowseekers members get together for at least two western ski trips a year, as well as one Midwestern ski adventure for skier and snowboarding enthusiasts alike. One of the best benefits for members is that groups like this can obtain comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices for those who can’t regularly afford that many ski trips in one year.

In addition, the club has the opportunity to demonstrate and evaluate various types of ski gear and equipment, and hosts a number of training demonstrations at various locations throughout the year. Joining a ski club can be especially beneficial for beginning skiers or those who are looking to enhance their existing skills.

Because the large amount of ski gear and equipment available, as well as the amount of new ski gear introduced every year, can be overwhelming to someone just starting out, the opportunity to socialize with more advanced skiers and snowboarders can also be beneficial.

IOC President Jacques Rogue announced the decision in December 2009, and stated that the Austrian location beat out the Kuopio, Finland location by a large margin of votes. The decision to host a Youth Winter Olympics was based on the IOC’s determination to promote greater sportsmanship and athleticism in young people around the world.

All competitors in youth Olympic events are top athletes from all over the world ranging in ages from 14 to 18, and ineligible for regular Olympic competitions.
If you love to ski or snowboard and want to share your love of the sport with the world, the current climate in the ski and snowboarding industry opens the door for great opportunities in a number of ski related jobs. A number of top ski resorts throughout the US and Canada are currently hiring for a number of positions, and there are also still a number of opportunities to work at the 2010 Winter Olympics celebration in Vancouver.
Ski Jobs and Winter Olympics Help Boost Economy is a post from: Ski Gear Heaven

With much of the economy in the US and the rest of the world still struggling to recover from recent housing and unemployment crises, the financial outlook for many of the nation’s ski resorts as well as ski gear manufacturers and retailers has never been better. Statistics have proven that skiers, snowboarders, and other winter athletes are very dedicated enthusiasts, and when there are record amounts of snowfall at a number of top ski areas, along with a Winter Olympics season, the forecast is optimistic.

While many of the people who work at the Winter Olympics are volunteers as opposed to paid staff members, there are a handful of lesser paid staff positions that still offer a moderate income.
In addition, volunteer opportunities at the Olympics can also open the door to a number of other opportunities, while the unlimited potential for sales and marketing professionals at the Olympics abound.

Ski resorts, ski shops, and other ski areas throughout the US are also great options this time of year for someone who is seeking seasonal employment.
